There are many reasons to start an online business and these are my top 5 reasons. Bear in mind that just because these are good reasons to why you should start one, it doesn’t mean it’s easy. You have just as much chance of failing online if you don’t put the time and effort in.
1. Low start up cost:
Compared to an offline business which might cost you thousands of dollars to start, starting an online business is relatively cheap, in some cases you don’t even have to spend money at all but this depends on the business model.
2. Runs on autopilot:
With an offline business, the business has only a certain amount of hours in a day to run. The opening hours might be 9-5 but what about the rest of the hours from 5pm to 9am? With an online business you are practically open 24 hours 7 days a week.
3. Many potential income streams:
The beauty of the internet is that there are many income streams that could be implemented. If one dries up you can always find another to replace it. With offline businesses you might be relying on only one source.
4. Freedom to work anywhere:
All you really need is an internet connection and you can run your business anywhere you like. These days all you need is a wireless modem and laptop in your car, in your hotel, in another country. Try doing that with an offline business.
5. “Unlimited” prospects:
With an offline business your customer base depending on the business is limited to the catchment area. For example if you own a restaurant your area might only have 2000 people, they are your potential customers. If you’re based online then the whole of the internet is your potential customer base. You are then only limited by your marketing skills on the internet.
